UFC 74 results; Randy Couture impresses, GSP dominates

30 08 2007

UFC 74 kicked off with fans going nuts.  Dana White and the good fellas at Zuffa llc decided to make us all wait for over a month before giving us a night with some descent fights.  We got to see Roger Huerta throw around a fighter who was supposed to revolutionize the lightweight division’s grappling.  We got to see Georges St. Pierre take Josh Koschek down at will and impressive of all we got to see a forty year old Randy Couture destroy Gabriel Gonzaga.

Why was this night so exciting?  There weren’t any flashy knockouts, Randy Couture coudn’t finish off Gonzaga, but did make him bleed so bad my brother in law became nautious.  Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the fight with Couture throwing the hammer down Tito Ortiz style. (Ground n pound from on top with the fighter underneath desperately trying to cover up to no avail)

UFC 74 was so exciting because we’ve been waiting for a fight for over a month.  I started to feel like a crack addict who needed a fix and my dealer was in jail.  The goodfellas at Zuffa llc will keep us very busy over the next couple of monthes.  UFC 75 will pit Pride’s Dan Henderson (American Badass with two titles) against UFC’s Quinton Jackson (former Pride badass).  That same night we’ll get to see Mikro Cro Cop redeem himself against Cheik Kongo (both former pride badasses.)

I feel like a kid at christmas (not a crackhead who got a fix)

Muay Thai Clinch 101-

To improve your control over your opponent, a successful and effecient Muay Thai clinch is essential.  The Muay Thai clinch is one of the most dominent moves used by fighters in mixed martial arts.  The Muay Thai clinch allows you to control your opponent moving them at will and opening them up for knees, elbows, punches and quick takedowns.

Once in a Muay Thai clinch (fingers locked behind your opponents neck), bring your elbows together and pull into your stomach.  This will draw your opponent closer to you.  While you draw them in a natural reaction for a muay thai fighter is to push away from the clinch.  While pushing away you may knee you opponent in an exposed thigh or stomach, elbow an exposed face or use their momentum to take them down.

Perfect your Muay Thai clinch by sparring and starting in that position.  This is called situational sparring, situational sparring can put you in real life scenarios that will make you a winner on fight night.
